February 12, 2021

A News Channel 10 article written by Vania Patino titled
"COVID-19 Vaccine Coming to Amarillo CVS as Part of Federal Retail Pharmacy Program" reports that one million doses of the Moderna vaccine will be sent out to 21 pharmacy chains across the nation. CVS, Walmart, H-E-B, and Good Neighbor Pharmacy will be the participating pharmacies here in Texas, with CVS confirming one of their 70 pharmacies is in Amarillo.
The Federal Retail Pharmacy Program will open today, February 12th, to those eligible in the Phase 1A and Phase 1B category. As a fresh reminder, front-line health care workers and residents at long-term care facilities fall under the Phase 1A category, and people over the age of 65 with underlined health conditions that risk the severity of the coronavirus fall under Phase 1B. More information can be found at the
Texas Department of State Health Services. As it is a federal program, the vaccine will be free of charge regardless of if you are insured or not.
Only those who have scheduled their appointment will be receiving their shot as there is a limited vaccine supply. Scheduling your appointment can be done as early as today and can be programmed
online on the CVS website, contacting CVS customer service or through their app. It is also recommended to schedule for the second dose to ensure availability when it's time to receive the second shot. More locations are expected to open as more vaccines become available.
